Hi,
I'm new here and I hope that this is acceptable. If not, let me know for future reference.
I love dogs (currently am not in a position to own any however) and one of my passions is dog rescue. One of the important parts of rescue is education and while I'm sure many of you on this board are in the same boat I am in, it never hurts to post these links just in case someone new to the dog world needs a crash course in reality.
This is a great slide show from the Atlanta Animal shelter. It chronicles the story of a dog brought in as a stray.

Just One Litter is an educational organization formed to educate people on the effect that their decision to breed their pet has on a community where shelters and rescues are already bursting at the seams. There are two slideshows here- one about puppies, one about kittens.

This site is a great starting point for anyone looking for a dog/cat/small animal in the U.S. or Canada. Even if you aren't looking, it can give you a great idea of what is out there.

This link is useless unless your computer has sound. If it does, this is a must watch. It gives great insight into what shelter workers face everyday.

And last but not least, Every Nine Seconds. You can read about their campaign and then, if you wish, buy their book 'One at a Time'. I highly reccomend the book- it is a must have if you own pets or ever plan on owning pets. It is almost 150 pages long with classy black and white photos. It is my favorite book ever. Read about it on the site.

Thanks for taking the time to read my little PSA, now back to your regularly scheduled programming!
