IntroI thought I'd post this for all of you who are using MP3 downloaders such as Kazaa [aka P2P Programs]. There are two lists below that show which P2P Programs are unsafe [Have spyware, viruses, adware etc in them] and which ones are safe [don't have any of those above]. If you happen to find one of the 'safe' ones that include dangerous adware etc, reply and I shall put it in the unsafe list =) Un-SafeKaZaa [Offers a paid version without adware] Limewire Audiogalaxy Bearshare [Offers a paid version without adware] IMesh Morpheus Grokster Xolox Bluberster 2.x aka Piolet [Blubster 2.0 and higher and Piolet are adware and bundle other adware] OneMX Freewire BitTorrent WinMX SafeFT* [Full name of program and link to it will only be given through finding the one responsible for watching the shadowed lands. They have there reasons why... Shortend because of stupid seach engines picking up on the names of said P2Ps. *mumbles about the 'you know whozies' demanding search engines to turn over their search logs these days*] ShareazaE-MuleGnucleusBlubster 1.2.3 [Later version are unsafe] SoulseekBitTorrent [Only download from this link - all other links may be unsafe] Direct ConnectMuteNote/DisclaimerI hold no responsibility to any damage any of the above programs do to your computer. It is your choice to download them, Links are not added to the 'Unsafe' Programs for obvious reasons. Happy downloading!

Please note that it is legal for yourself to hold MP3s for 24 hours, and to direct stream. anything other than that is ILLEGAL. Downloading programs is ILLEGAL. Downloading Demos are LEGAL. its a good place to say, get the Demo for PSP7 which isnt available at jasc.com any more, and stuff like that. If you want music and programs. amazon.com or ebay.com is the best, safest way to go. Juuust covering ourselves there ; )

If, btw, you want to be legal but only want one or two songs, I heartily reccomend iMusic (the macintosh pay-per-download service). It's .99 an MP3, which is a rather good deal even if you download a whole 12-track CD compared to twenty dollars at Borders or something like that. They even branch out into chapters of audiobooks, comedy sketches, etc so it's worth a look... (how I have an mp3 of the monty python cheese shop skit - worth .99, don't you think? ) ^^;;

You can get a program. I think it's called GhostWear or something like that. In randomises your computer's number so that you're allmost impossible to track while downloading music. I don't have it, but a friend does.

You can get a program. I think it's called GhostWear or something like that. In randomises your computer's number so that you're allmost impossible to track while downloading music. I don't have it, but a friend does. "Number" That's called the IP address. Fun. Not accurate...as mine personally can change anywhere from everynight to every month. Called a rollover. When People access my site using a proxy IP I Don't like that because It screws up my demographics surveys. ITs also somewhat illegal if it should fall on an existing IP currently in use. My IP traces to lines near my computer, sure. But I have a Cable Modem. Sometimes an IP may be located in one state, but it belongs to a computer two states over. WebTV IP addresses are not easily tracked. That Said. I think The original List is rather wrong. And where is KaZaa Lite? ITs rather good. (I download...um...adult things... documents (Read Playboy magazines in PDF format etc) video clips, sound bites from anime and anime) Any P2P is causing you to run risks of viruses...merely due to the fact you're trading files from people all over the world on different computers who may not use antivirus software. If you ever DL something on KaZaa from SiegfriedandRoy@tiger Please virus scan it cause I got a bug lodged in this computer and you may just pick it up if you don't. </geek> I will now speak english.

Kazaa Lite shut down I think. Though if you do enough digging around you _might_ find a copy up for grabs.
Heard a bit ago that they MPAA/RIAA are trying to get courts to let them hold the _creators_ of the software liable for all damages their users cause when doing Illegal things.
Ack. It's a mess. They made a mistake by not keeping a tighter watch in the first place.

Hah. I would update this if I could, but that account is long gone.
WinMX got shut down, and Limewire is fairly safe; unless you download videos, which most of the time turn out to be either porn or virus/adware.

Actually, you can still use WinMX but you'll need a patch. Just google "WinMX pie patch".

Limewire is about as safe as winpolipos.... Safe my furry tail! Limewire is like a breeding ground for viruses these days and their content sucks badly since the decline of K-Lite and WMX (winmx)

I used to use Limewire and I never got a virus from it. I got some corrupyed files though. Just don't download programs especially .exe and you should be fine. .mp3s are rare to have viruses from what I've heard an Limeire doesn't have malware in the program itself.
