I am pretty good when it comes to tables. They are probably my favorite sort of layout to do, but, I want to try something different.
So, here are a few questions:
You know the box layouts where it's just a big picture with the title, etc. and then you have to do... I believe it's java? Or regular html? Put the text on the image and make it fit exactly in that box.
Plus, I have no idea what I WANT for the image. I was thinking of a forest, or maybe a river/mountain. I've also been looking at old-style japanese art and flowers. Now, I see how a lot of people have gotten it to be and I really want to know what I am just doing wrong. Whenever I attempt at making something like that, it's so boring and plain I just want to rip my hair out. Tips, pleeeez&thnxu.

In the table where the image is, you have to make that a background within the cell. So, if you had an image like this: <td width=150 height=100><img src=pic.gif></td> You would simply use CSS to make the cell have the image as a background. <td width=150 height=100 style="background-image:url('pic.gif'); background-repeat:no-repeat;">Text can now go here.</td> And you'll more than likely want to add "valign=top" so that the text starts at the top of the cell. <td width=150 height=100 style="background-image:url('pic.gif'); background-repeat:no-repeat;" valign=top>Text can now go here.</td> That should work out for you, and if you want to see an example of the table layout that I made, you can go here: fan.miscehviousones.com/abyssost/ The white in the middle expands with the page. As for your design problem. Remember that web design/layouts are an art. The best way to know what you want is to look at people's layout already. Just keep trying something until you get it right. Making gorgeous layouts takes time. I usually spend 1-2 hours with the design itself. And if you want to see some awesome web design sites... komettails.net/aethereality.net/night-frost.org/celestial-star.net/Hope that helps somewhat. ^^

I think what you're looking for are called iframes, which are custom sized boxes that have scroll bars on the side and they're typically used on top of images. I used to use tons of them, if you need some help, let me know.

Noelle, helpful as always. xD So it's pretty much just a regular table only the background will be the image? I guess that would work.
That also sounds like what I was looking for, though. I've only ever heard the name iframes, though.

Well, technically both work. Iframes is way easier though and more common. Here's an iframe ex: www.miscehviousones.com/fan/annoying/Yep, exactly. Downside of the tables: You have to have the layout on every page. (But you can use php to shorten the length of the page. Downside of Iframes: The pages will "scroll" inside the area of the box only. To do iframes all you do is find the image you are looking for and subsitute the image with an iframe, make the webpage you put inside the iframe have the background of the image you replaced. Same basic idea. <td width=150 height=100><img src=pic.gif></td> Would become: <td><iframe src=main.htm name=main width=150 height=100 border=0 frameborder=0></iframe></td> Then your html in your webpage would look something like this, and it would be named "main.htm": <html> <head> <title></title> </head> <body> <body background=pic.gif bgproperties=fixed> Whatever you want to write..... </body> </html> You could also use CSS to put the background in the iframe as well. It can be external or internal. External is a lifesaver so you don't have to change all the coding on the pages, but just one style sheet. (you can also do this with the table method I mentioned before, but you would have to use php) Edit: And if you're making a layout with PSP or Photoshop, and want to make them with iframes, I have a tutorial for both. I got it done. =D I had a layout before, but I forgot about it. It's very pretty, deep space/stars. It's a combination of iframes and tables. www.freewebs.com/xcursive/euphony.htmI need to work on it a bit more, though. It's going to be a cyberpet adoption home.
