Canine Controversy

C.C has always been free-play (Having no plot), even from the very start. It was all started by the current administrator (Known only as Devy) on August 11th, 2005. The color scheme of the site was red and white (Which was so bright it burned the member’s eyes… But never bothered Devy, ironically). Many of the early members are still around today, such as Vixen, Rhian, Brandy, Noodles and Naia (And many others… Too many to name. Most of these members have achieved staff status). The idea of the site was simple - Stray dogs in the city, struggling to survive and forming packs. This idea was much like the popular wild horse ideas… But less popular. Actually, for the first several months of C.C’s life, ‘Canine Controversy’ was spelled incorrectly. It was being spelled ‘Canine Conreversy’. I was really embarrassed, seeing as how I had advertised it hundreds of times with the incorrect spelling, and even made the site’s banner with the incorrect spelling. Live and learn, I suppose.
Although at first C.C had very few (But dedicated) members, C.C fever was spreading, and the site’s member count slowly climbed to a respectable 100. Then 200. 300. 400. It was around this time that things started to change. The members were tired of being blinded by Devy’s glaring layout, and so it was changed to a grayscale theme (The theme has altered over time, and today has a light blue color scheme). Things such as the Canine Mafia and pack of Stray Puppies were introduced (The puppy pack was deleted, but the mafia still exists, despite a rough start), but the most revolutionary introduction was the democratic system. Unable to make decisions that made over 400 people happy, Devy started holding polls - All decisions in the RPG would be made by the members. They could hold polls on what new boards they wanted, adding or changing rules, or even revolting against the entire system (Thankfully, that has never happened). The democratic system parented the slogan “C.C; where the members own the RPG” and brought a wave of interest in the site. Once more, the member numbers starting climbing… 500… 600…
Finally C.C got a taste of success (Although it can be argued that a site is successful at 100 members). But the problems were not over… With the large amount of members, bad apples started to show up and cause trouble. Enormous fights broke out, sob stories poured in the CBox and harsh words were exchanged. C.C suddenly encountered war - And everyone was in it. It had all started by a couple of younger members who were exceptionally emotional, and kick started a wave of aggression. This is when new types of staff member called “Peace Keepers” were introduced, and have done an excellent job at keeping C.C peaceful. However, emotions were flared and feelings were hurt, so a board called “The Office” was created, in which volunteer ‘counselors’ talked people through their issues (This board was deleted later on, as the ‘emotional outbreak’ was over and people were concerned about privacy issues, seeing as anybody could read the ‘counseling sessions’). Next came higher standards - Until now, C.C had only required 5 lines of writing per post, minimum. But that standard was not specific enough, and was novice. So Devy introduced (Through a poll, of course) ‘The 150 Word Minimum’ rule (Calculated by a word counter at the bottom of each page). This brought on mass bannings, because many members were not talented enough to make 150 words. So instead of banning 1/5 of the members, a board called ‘RP School’ was created, in which volunteer teachers teach others to RP to higher standards… And solved the problem completely. The posting minimum today is 200 words. After inactivity the ‘RP School’ was also removed, but there are some thoughts on maybe bringing it back one day.
By now, the numbers have reached over 900 members, and the site endures even more additions; A new territory (Which included a tournament at the beginning of it’s life to decide on the leadership), the Sink Hole Dogs (Mutant dogs living under the streets in caverns), The League (An underground dog fighting league) C.C’s city was named ‘Cairoco City’, the additions and deletion of boards, additional skins (Color themes for the site), and changes in staff positions. But it’s still not over - Even now we endure complications… Other sites plagiarizing C.C and so on. But even over the past year; through snowstorms, romances, the creation of new life and the extinguishing of the old, through friendships in character and out of character, one thing has remained constant - C.C is a place for everyone to come and escape reality, and enjoy an alternate reality of endless opportunity.
