Kerrys mini reshacker tutorial: for petz 5 hexing OK im not an amazing hexer, not yet newayz *prays* but i want to try and help people understand reshacker. Im not very good atall, and i warn you but i CAN change colour thats as far as i have got. But its good to start hexing that way, so here on my mini tutorial i will try to help explain it: OK so wherever you have saved your reshacker file, go and find it. Next double click on the reshacker icon *its a lil hammer on a yellow background thing* and you have a box come up. See at the top? there is a "menu" bar. Just as if you were to open a petz file right? well click on open. Then go to the breed file you want to hex *i dont know how to hex petz files so make sure you use breedfiles* Notice, that when you are in the folder, the breed file name does not come up? Well thats no problem, just click on the little bar at the bottom, and change it to "all files". incase you cannot find your breed file then go to: c:/program files/ ubi soft/ studio mythos/ petz 5/ resource/ dogz or catz *depending the file you want to hex*. OK now as you have opened up your file, see on the left there are now lotsa folders? well, we are going to hex the adult breed file. So click on the folder thats says LNZ and 2 more folders come up. You will want to hex the adult file, so click on the first one, that will not say pup. OK see the long and confusing code and lotsa letters? EECH i know, but its not that difficult really. See, if you have a look it says thing like "eyelid colour" and then you have alot of numbers. Well those numbers means colours. I always hex with a colour chart minimized with me. This is the URL to the chart i use. www.freeshed.com/tpc/tutcolor.htm If you want to hex colours, or anything major, then this is where things get a bit more tricky. With your colour chart, and reshacker open. On reshacker scroll down to very nearly the bottom of the codes. You need to find something that says "ballz info" As a heading almost. This will be just before some more confusing codes. OK not to worry. Have a lil look around here, if you use the scroll bar at the bottom and pull it to the right then at the end of some numbers, you may see something that says "anklez" or "shoulder" or maybe even "whiskers 1 " These are all the petz body parts. yes. Now, lets start at something simple, you want to hex a "body" for an example. Once you learn this you will be able to do all body parts. Now, if you pull the bottom scroll bar as far to the left as possible, back to the horrid numbers. EECH. Now make sure the number is in line with the body part you would like to hex. See the first number, very nearest to the left? yup, this is where we change colour. I only know how to do colour right now. Newayz, open up your colour chart. Choose the colour you like, and keep in mind the number it has with it. That number is code for that colour. Now on the body, where the number nearest to the left is, change the number original, to the number of your choosen colour. Then at the very top of reshacker itself, above the script there is something that will say "compile script" this means keep what you have just done. So click on it. Then on the menu bar go to save. After it is saved it will make a back up of the original file but your own hexed one will be in the adoption centre. Next open up petz and then go to the adoption centre. "pick a pet" the breed file you hexed. And keep getting out that breed untill you get your one with the hexed body! YEY! Yes you have hexed a petz body. Then close petz. Now you know basically what to do, so change the colours of everything you want! you can do legs and anklez ears everything. Just do the same as you did on the body I really hope that helped anyone who needed some help. After i got the grip of it i was OK and this forum really helped me. Im not a fab hexer, i can do simple things, but this is a good start. Hope i helped. Kerry

Pic reminds me of a Burmese (God we need a spell checker) Mountain Dog. All in all start with hex painting first before moving along to more advance things such as feathering (needed for the tail, belly and legs) as well as "direct spot patching" as I like to call it which is the overlaying of colors in certain areas to produce the nice tri colored look. Start by using a breedfile closest in size and shape of the one you want. (less things to change in the long run). Then Hex paint the dogz all black, it's snout white and give it a nice eye color. Once you've done that check to see that the dogz comes out of the AC how you painted it (In this case all black, a white face stripe with say light green color eyes *Which is 130 on the hexing color chart*) Then Learn how to do a Face Stripe and make it white. From here you can learn from tutorials or a friend (or even come back to the board and ask around) for help with making the coat markings.[/size]

If it doesn't show up.. go into your Resource/dogz folder. The file you were hex painting rename it to Say Hexpainted Puppy.dog then copy the file that you worked in that has the _original on it. I.e. I hexpainted a Dali but it won't show up. The current Dalmation.dog file is the oneI used but it won't show up. So I go into my Resource/Dogz folder and rename it to My Hexpainted Puppy.dog There is a file called Dalmation_original.dog also in the resource/dogz folder. So I'm going to right click on that file, choose copy and then paste the file into the resource dogz folder. **Now I know you're wondering won't that replace the dalmation_original.dog file ... Answer it doesn't for me at least. You can try but if it overwrites the original It's ok.. it's just overwriting itself. If it does do that then just rename the file you were working with that has the _original.dog in it to Whatever it was .. like me.. it would be dalmation.com.. if it doesn't Overwrite you'll see a new file called "Copy of Whateverfile you used_original.dog" -> "Copy of Dalmation_original.dog" for my case. That Copy of file you'll rename to Whatever it was.dog -> "Dalmation.dog" for me ** Now with that done.. Open Petz and check to see if the file shows up in the AC and you can take the doggers out. If you can good good. Now Close Petz. Open the File you want to hex paint in again (Dalmation.dog in my case) in Reshacker. Now Here's a little cheater so you don't spend all day hurting yourself. Minimize That reshacker window then on your desktop click on the Reshacker icon (again) It'll open up a fresh new reshacker window. In that window open up your "Hexpainted Puppy.dog" file. Open up the Lnz folder for that.. then the Main folder (it'll say DM, GD, etc... based on the breed you're working in) then the 1033 that shows up in that file. You should see all the info you worked upon so tirelessly . go to Edit then Select all... The info will be highlighted. Then go to Edit and choose copy ^^ now minimize that window. Now rememeber that first minimize Reshacker window? Well maximize it now and go into the LNZ section for it. Then the main folder (again DM, GD, ...etc based on teh breed it uses) and the 1033 that shows up once you click on the main folder in the LNZ section. Now Just go to Edit and choose select all... you'll notice it'll highlight all that info. Now go back to edit and choose Paste. It'll put in that info you copied from your hard worked file. Click the compile script button and go to file and choose save. Close both reshacker windows completely now. Then open petz and see if it worked. If it didn't i'll be glad to take a look at the file

You have to crawl before you run. Learn to hex paint first, then slowly move up.
