WARNING!!
I have been registered at Petz Auctions for approximately a week and have discovered that some of its members are nothing but thieves. They download petz from sites and sell them for credits at Petz Auctions. A day or so ago I saw a whole bunch of Boardwalk Sue's hexies for sale there! Others are selling the same pet more than once. Some are selling adopted petz even though the original owner requested that petz be returned if no longer wanted and not posted elsewhere!
To make it even worse, the developer of the site CONDONES this practice. He argues that hexers do not have a copyright to what they hex. The rules say that you can post and sell downloadable petz. The rules further say that the Auction site owners can't monitor what is posted. Furthermore, they have stated on the tag board that they won't do anything unless the original site owner complains AND HAS A SPECIFIC STATEMENT ON THEIR SITE STATING THAT PETZ ARE NOT TO BE POSTED ELSEWHERE!
As far as I am concerned, this is a big load of BS. Web sites are literary creations automatically protected by U.S. copyright law whether or not a statement appears on the site (a notice is no longer required by law). If someone takes things from a web site and posts them elsewhere, they are violating the site owner's copyright. In short, they are thieves. They are thieves twice over if they post downloaded petz at Petz Auctions. First, they stole from the site owner. Next they stole credits from Petz Auction members because those members could have downloaded the petz for free.
Am I ranting? You bet I am! The Petz Community has never tolerated theft and I hope it doesn't turn a blind eye towards what is happening at Petz Auctions. Post something on your site forbidding posting of your work at Petz Auctions. Stop posting your works at Petz Auctions and post them on your own web sites. Consider posting a warning on your site and to any groups or Forums you visit. Write to the Petz Auction Team and express your disgust at the way they are encouraging theft - especially by NOOBs who don't know PC protocol. The addy for the Team is:
support@timeless-games.com
Finally, don't just sit back and turn this into a discussion thread. Get off your little buns and DO something to put a stop to the thievery. Believe me, a flood of emails and shunning by the PC can be powerful ways to get a point across.
